Not all diamonds are created equal & every diamond is unique. Diamonds are available in various sizes, shapes, colors and with various internal characteristics.

Polished diamonds are very valuable, but many factors determine the value of a diamond. Scarcity is one such factor. Diamonds of a certain quality are rarer — and more valuable — than diamonds that lack that quality.

To systematically evaluate & compare diamonds, diamond experts around the world use a grading system developed by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in the 1950s. This grading system is known as the 4C's: Cut, Clarity, Color and Carat Weight, which has become the basic variable & part of the international language for describing and classifying diamonds.

Hero The 4Cs

Carat

Carat is something that is often seen and learned when buying or selling diamonds. The carat weight of a diamond is a measure of the weight of the diamond. The weight of a diamond is expressed in metric carats, abbreviated as "ct". One metric is about two tenths (0.2) of a gram.

The connection between rarity, carat and value can be surprising & confusing to many. Many know that a kilogram of sugar costs twice as much as half a kilogram of sugar. But diamonds are not a commodity like sugar. The price depends on a number of variables — carat weight is just one of them.

Big diamonds are rarer than small diamonds. The rarer the diamond, the more valuable it is. So a bigger stone is not only more valuable but it is also more expensive per carat. A 1 carat diamond weighs the same as four 0.25 carat diamonds. But even if all other quality factors are equal, the larger diamond is worth much more than the sum of the four smaller diamonds.

Clarity

Natural diamonds are the result of carbon being exposed to tremendous heat and pressure deep within the earth. This process can produce various internal characteristics called 'inclusions' and external characteristics called blemishes. These two types of characteristics determine the Clarity value of a diamond.

Blemishes include scratches and smudges on the diamond's surface. The inclusions are generally on the inside, and some can cause damage to the surface of the stone. A diamond's clarity grading consists of an evaluation of the number, size, nature, and position of these characteristics, and how these affect the overall appearance of the stone.

Like humans with different characteristics that make us unique, the characteristics of the clarity of a diamond are different in order to help experts distinguish real diamonds from similarities. Since no two diamonds have inclusions that stay the same, they can help identify each stone.

The GIA clarity scale has 6 categories and a total of 11 classes

GIA DIAMOND CLARITY SCALE

The GIA clarity scale has 6 categories and a total of 11 classes.  Like the other 4Cs, the influence of clarity is directly related to the diamond rarity. Flawless is the top class on the GIA Clarity Grade. Diamonds graded Flawless have no visible inclusions or blemishes even when examined under 10X magnification by a skilled and experienced appraiser. Diamonds of this value are very rare with very high prices & are rarely found in the market.

At the other end of the scale are diamonds with inclusions that can be easily seen with the naked eye. Between these two extremes is a diamond with inclusions that are only visible under 10X magnification. Stones in the mid-range make up the largest share of the retail market.

The clarity of Adelle Jewelery's diamond jewellery is unquestionable. Every diamond from Adelle Jewellery starts from VVS clarity. The class of diamonds with VVS clarity is declared as the ideal diamond because it has very good clarity but still has a friendly price.

Colour

Colour

Two diamonds with the same Clarity, Cut, & Carat can differ in value based on their color only. Even a slight difference in color can make a dramatic difference in value.

Diamonds have many colors. Diamonds that range from colorless to light yellow and brown fall within the normal diamond color range.

Chemically and structurally pure diamonds do not have a hue, like a drop of pure water, and have higher grades. GIA's D-to-Z color grading system measures color levels. The GIA D-to-Z color grading scale is the most widely accepted grading system in the industry. The scale begins with the letter D, representing a colorless diamond and continues, with increasing color, until the letter Z.

The higher the alphabet, the clearer the diamond color and the higher its carat value.

Adelle Jewellery has a commitment and consistency to always provide diamonds with the best colors ranging from D-F.

Cut

Cut

Beautifully cut diamonds are stunning, displaying the craftsmanship and care of the craftsman. When a diamond interacts with light, every angle and every facet affects the amount of light seen by the eye. The cut of a diamond can be assessed by the light that enters the diamond, from the way the light hits the surface, the amount of light that enters the diamond, and the shape of the reflected light.

Cut is often confused with diamond shape, but cut refers to the arrangement of the facets of the stone. The most common diamond shape used in jewelry is round, as seen in the standard brilliant cut. Shapes other than the standard round cut are called fancy cuts. Fancy cut diamonds also have their own names, based on their shape. The most famous are the marquise, princess, pear, oval, heart, and emerald cuts.

The quality of the cut is very important to the beauty and final value of a diamond. And of all the 4Cs, this is the most complex and technically difficult to analyze.

GIA DIAMOND CUT SCALE

The GIA Cut Grading System for standard brilliant round diamonds evaluates seven components. The first three; brilliance, fire and sparkle, consider the appearance & light reflection of a diamond. The remaining four, the ratio of weight, durability, polish, and symmetry, evaluated the design and diamond production.

The highest grade that can be obtained according to the GIA Cut Scale standard is Excellent, which indicates a good cut diamond so that a lot of light will be reflected up and make the diamond more luminous. There are many variations and combinations of proportions that will maximize the brilliance of a standard brilliant round diamond. As a general rule, the higher the cut value, the brighter the diamond.
